Utilizing the energy from a multi-kilowatt laser beam a small melt pool is generated on the surface of the part.
At the same time a metal powder (e.g. Inconel 625) is depo-sited in a one-step process to establish a welded track.
The characteristics of the laser process are:- Low dilution with base material
- Minimal heat input, thus low distortion
- Automated, highly reproducible process
- The characteristics of the protective layer can be tailored to the specific wear pattern
of the part
